We created Nourish Newborn so every mom can have a calm, enjoyable and nourishing breastfeeding experience.

Hello! We are Matt and Michelle Conner. Our product, Nourish Newborn Supplemental Feeding Nipple Shield, was inspired by Michelle's struggles with breastfeeding our three children. Michelle's struggles included nipple inversion and milk production. There was nothing on the market to easily connect a supplemental feeding device such as the Medela Supplemental Nursing System (SNS) to the breast or a nipple shield without immense frustration, discomfort and leakage issues.

Michelle:
I attempted using a nipple shield, but it did not work on it's own in my situation. I only found out about supplemental feeding systems such as the Medela Supplemental Nursing System (SNS) after I was done breastfeeding. Even so, I learned through our research that they were prone to leaks and would not have helped with my nipple inversion challenge anyway.

I attempted pumping for two-weeks. I tried so hard. I thought that my milk would let down within this time, but it didn’t. I just wanted to bond with my baby. I reluctantly stopped attempting to pump and resorted to bottle feeding. I wasn’t breastfeeding but at least I could relax and bond with my baby. Nourish Newborn along with a supplemental feeding system would have at least bought me time and gave my babies and me a more intimate bonding experience.
Matt:
As Michelle's husband and dad to our three beautiful children, the feeling of helplessness was overwhelming. I watched my wife struggle with breastfeeding all three of them. Her stress. The look of emotional pain as she fought back tears, mourning the fact that she was unable to have this wonderful maternal experience. Time away from our babies attempting to pump only to get maybe a few drops of colostrum. Or, watching her attempts to use the irrigation syringe to “prime” the nipple shield, which was just painful, cumbersome, and frustrating.

It was excruciating for me to watch her and felt helpless. And the way I felt was a far second only to the way she was feeling. There had to be a way to keep the baby at breast, with skin-to-skin contact, while getting the nutrition she needs and reducing mama’s stress. We decided to do something about it so at least other moms and babies could enjoy this loving bonding experience.
